Loaded Pierogies, Toronto ON

The Loaded Pierogi

IMG_3528On Sunday, late morning, we walked to 839 Queen Street West in Toronto, Canada, a quaint restaurant located on the corner of Queen and Niagara St. to help you our just a few blocks from Chinatown.  The interior is cozy, flowers on the table, exposed pipes, distressed wood tables with a few menu boards vary in sizes to accommodate their needs for listing their products and specialty beers.

IMG_3521Our server took the time to explain to us about the restaurant’s specialty, Loaded Pierogies.  Bill suggested we experiment with different plates and share them amongst us for our first visit.  A deep-fried Mac N Cheese ball is our choice for our appetizer. Crispy on the outside, oozing with cheese and loaded with flavours.  A sweet way to start our afternoon, adding some cocktails like the spicy caesar, amongst other selections.

The main dish is what I was craving, selecting the suggestion of the server was a superb idea.  Pierogies prepared two ways, the first half is boiled, the second is oven-baked.   Generously spread on top of the pierogies, a mild butter chicken sauce, big pieces of chicken topped with sour cream and chives.  The first bite said it all, just delish this dish.  I was very impressed with this combination, it gave me one meal that I’m always on the lookout for and the Ruskie pierogies that I fell in love with during my travels to Polland.

IMG_3554The guest that joined me for this adventure of walking for an hour devoured the club pierogies with avocados, drizzled with their sauce, covered in bacon bits then topped with sour cream and chives.  The pulled pork and chorizo sausage had just enough smokiness to the pork meat while the chorizo had the perfect kick to boost your flavours and again topped with sour cream and chives.  All 3 mains that we chose was with the servers recommendations with a home run for each.

Loaded Pierogies is located in Toronto, to serve you better, they have multiple locations, including this week opening at Union Station.  Now you can pick these up for your travel home or for your whole family.  They wouldn’t make it home with me, take your chance hehe.  839 Queen Street West offers bar service, street parking, wifi, lots of natural light for your benefit.  Reservation isn’t required, you can call ahead for pick up orders.  Bills smile is infectious, excellent service, nice cocktail menu adding a good beer and wine selection that will pair well with pierogies. We will be returning to this location.

Thank you for having us!

  1. Growing up, I never really liked my country’s cuisine. In fact, I kind of hated it, and hearing my mum say that we’re going to have pierogi for dinner was like the worst nightmare. I still can’t believe how greatly appreciated that dish is across the world. 😉

    1. I’ve travelled to your country, and one of the first things I ate was Pierogies, cause it was a new food group to us here in Canada (from a small village that had no other culinary experience was home cooked meals). We had meat and pototes, my worst nightmare 🙂
